High school students use 3D printer to create wheelchair for goat

(WSLS) A two-legged goat is able to walk for the first time thanks to a group of high school students in Roanoke, Virginia.

Lilly the goat was born two years ago, with just two legs.

Orion Turner and his classmates met Lilly last fall and began work on a a wheelchair as a class project.

"Basically, we started out with a sketch, trying to figure out what's going to work, make a prototype, get her in it and kind of figure out what's exactly going to work," Turner says.

Over the last six months they met every other day and dedicated over 70 hours to the project. It took several failed attempts to get the model just right.

"You have mistakes, you have things that don't work out and that's one of the important things they've learned; everything doesn't work so, you go back to the drawing board," says Teacher Patricia Smith.

Students say the key was finding where Lilly balances her weight to create a wheelchair that would give stability.

"She's already moving her leg, using the movements and doing really well," Turner says.
