Roland DG donates printer to TAFE

Roland DG has donated a signage printer cutter to TAFE Illawarra in a bid to encourage a new generation of signage professionals.

The printer supplier donated a Soljet Pro4 XR-640 to students studying towards a certificate in signage at the TAFE in Southern-NSW.

According to Roland DG the technology was given to the TAFE to use in conjunction with the company's donation of a VS-640 Printer Cutter five years ago.

Gino Farina, sales and marketing director of Roland DG says the machine is the company's most innovative technology, and will assist the students in gaining signage printing experience.

"This is our latest technology, we wanted to work with the TAFE to provide them a second machine, and so give more access to their students so they have more opportunity to have that hands-on experience with the printers," he says.

Roland DG says the XR-640 uses the latest generation environmentally-friendly ECO-SOL MAX 2 inks and is larger and faster with greater quality output.

Wollongong TAFE graduate Anthony Jones says he has started his own business using the same machine Roland donated five years ago, and believes the new machine will add a lot of value to the next generation of future sign makers.

Roland DG says it is working closely with the TAFE to add value to the curriculum by creating new course content on the manufacturer and business side of the industry.

"This competency based training is helping to educate the students so that the next generation of signage professionals graduate with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the ever-evolving signage industry."

Delivery of the XR-640 has been timely according to both the school and company, as it gives TAFE staff a chance to receive training before the updated signage course commences in 2016.
