Court remands alleged fake syrup prod ucer in prison 
THE National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate's Court a printer, Bamidele Afolabi, who allegedly forged NAFDAC's product registration documents.

The prosecutor, Mr. Jombo Washington, told the Apapa Magistrate's Court Three that the offence was committed at No. 13A, Alayo Shopping Complex in Ijaye-Ojokoro, near Lagos.

The accused resides at No. 73, Ifelodun Street, Ijoko-Sango in Ogun.Washington said that Afolabi was facing a count charge of producing NAFDAC's notification of product registration with fake NAFDAC registration number: A7-0583L.

He said that the accused named the product Koduro Soke Herbal Gin X200ml.According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to Section 361 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and punishable under Section 363 (2) of the same law.

He said that the accused also produced fake NAFDAC notification of product registration, having NAFDAC registration: A7-1017L, called Doro Webo Herbal Gin X100ml.The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A. Bolarinwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

In another development, a Federal High Court, Lagos, yesterday remanded an alleged fake codeine cough syrup producer, Mr. Kenneth Chibuko Chiokwe, in prison custody following his arraignment by NAFDAC.The suspect was arraigned before Justice Jude Kanyioh Dagat.

The prosecuting counsel, Umar Shamaki, told the court that the accused imported the fake product. When the charge was read to him, the suspect pleaded not guilty.

Subsequently, defence counsel, Chukwudi Nneke filed a bail application and urged the court to admit the accused to bail because the offence is a bailable one.He stressed that the accused is having credible surety that can stand for him.

The prosecution did not oppose the bail application but prayed the court to give him stringent conditions that will ensure that the accused stand his trial.

After listening to the counsel on both sides, Justice Dagat granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.

The judge, therefore, ordered his remand until his bail conditions are perfected and subsequently adjourned the case to April 5, 2016 for trial.
