Industrial 3D printer manufacturer 3D Platform has just released their new SurePrint Servo Motor Upgrade Package for their large format 3DP1000 3D printer. The new upgrade package offers new and existing customers the option to produce 3D printed parts with a much higher level of print detail, faster printing speeds and higher print accuracy than was possible with the printer's existing stepper motors. The new servo motors offer advanced mechatronics and improved motor control that will produce more highly accurate and detailed 3D printed parts faster than ever before.
The Illinois-based company released their industrial grade 3DP1000 3D printer last year and it already offered some rather exceptional print speeds and part resolution. The large-scale open platform concept of the 3DP1000 offered manufacturers a high-speed and affordable option for the rapid mass production of 3D printable parts. With a huge build area of 1 meter x 1 meter x 0.5 meter (39 inch x 39 inch x 19.6 inch), the printer was made for versatility. It could accurately and dependably produce large amounts of identical parts or produce a single, large part that most 3D printers would need to print as separate parts and join together. Managing the quality of a printer that size isn't easy, and 3D Platform made sure that they used the best hardware in the industry to ensure a high level of quality.
Their new SurePrint Servo Upgrade Package dramatically improves the already impressive level of detail and speed that the 3DP1000 offers. The servo motors generate up to 85% more torque compared to their standard stepper motors, which enables faster acceleration and deceleration during the printing process and will virtually cut the printing time in half. The new motors also consume 67% less power than the standard stepper motors and produce 50% less heat, which will prolong the printer's lifespan and improve the reliability of the entire motion system. The standard stepper motors' reliability and life expectancy are significantly lower due to the strain that higher operating temperatures place on them, which degrades the motors quicker.
One of the primary reasons that the upgraded 3DP1000 produces more detailed parts is because the SurePrint Servo motors operate in a "closed loop" system that is constantly correcting any slight movements caused by the printing process. Each of the servo motors is embedded with a 20,000 count encoder that provides position feedback every 1.25 microns. This continual feedback gives the 3DP1000 the ability to automatically adjust its printing head, which will increase the final print quality and result in a much smoother part surface finish with reduced striation marks.
"Available immediately, the SurePrint Servo Upgrade Package is an excellent option for both new and existing 3DP1000 users. The SurePrint Servo Upgrade Package is the equivalent to swapping your car's 200 HP motor with a 375 HP motor—you immediately gain drive torque. Moreover, when you add smart traction control, you gain greater control and precision. The results for our customers include faster print times, greater positional accuracy and higher print quality," said 3D Platform VP of Sales and Marketing John Good.

The 3D Platform 3DP1000 industrial strength, large format 3D printer was already a highly advanced machine that offered users impressive mechatronics and linear motion control technologies. The new SurePrint Servo Upgrade Package is, simply put, a huge leap in performance and print accuracy. The package is now available and can be included on new machines or added to existing customers' 3DP1000 printers that are already being used, and is priced at $2,000.
